Average annual wages represent the annual amount paid per employee, expressed in full-time equivalent terms, across the total economy. They are calculated by dividing the total wage bill (from national accounts) by the average number of employees in the economy, and then converting this figure into a full-time equivalent basis using the ratio of average usual weekly hours worked by full-time employees to that of all employees. This indicator reflects the general income level within an economy and is commonly used to compare wage levels across countries, monitor income trends over time, and analyze earnings disparities. Average annual wages are expressed in US dollars, adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP).
